“We want to bring children closer to knowledge and new experiences that otherwise would not be accessible to them in this way”, explains Angelika Koidl who, together with Sylvia, initiated the Wipptal Holiday Express project 15 years ago and still oversees it.

Since 2003, the Sternschnuppe Society has organised a total of 95 courses/events throughout the summer holidays, for children from the Wipp Valley and visiting children, from 10th July to 25th August, and always from Monday to Saturday. The diverse and extremely affordable course programme takes place with a minimum participant number of four children per course.

Discover new ways of playing
“The goal was and is youth development in the local societies and the playful approach of the children to different themes and activities. In that way it will never be boring in the holidays”, says Angelika. In the courses, the children gain knowledge about, for example, geology, nature and art, conveyed in a child-appropriate way or visit the police, the fire brigade or local companies. Various activities such as archery can also be tried out. “My favourite event is always the “Night in the Hay”, Angelika’s daughter Lea tells us. “Because we read scary stories and sleep in the hay”.

For ALL children – but also for our young holiday guests
To begin with, the Wipptal Holiday Express was only intended for local children. However, already by the second year, the Sternschnuppe Society had extended the offer to children visiting the Wipptal. By now, there is even a special rule: The parents of the visiting children may also be present during the courses, if desired on the part of the children. In any case, the society very much looks forward to seeing new faces taking part in the courses.
