“Operettenadvent” – advent in the Wipptal
The pre-Christmas mood really comes over me every year at the Tyrolean operettas and the craftwork Advent event in the atmospheric Christmas market of Matrei. However, it is not only Matrei – other towns in the region also fall under the spell of Advent in December.
Tyrolean Advent Operettas
On the 7th & 14th December 2019, the village centre of Matrei will be transformed into a scene of local handicrafts and traditional cuisine. The visit of Amort, the ornamental blacksmith, is an essential part and you can really warm yourself up by the fire of the forge and see how he works with the hot metal. But other local craftspeople will also be selling wonderful, hand-made products: decorations made of wood and cloth, rustic pictures, embroidered cushions, turned wood pieces, embroidery belts, hand-knitted caps, as well as gloves, artistic, hand-made jewellery and much more. Equally, there is much to offer on the culinary side: delicacies from the farming community, the Hörtnagl’s fine brandies, honey products from the region, Kiachl fried dough with sauerkraut and, of course, the obligatory mulled wine all make the evening a feast for the palate.
For a more tranquil Advent ambience, in addition to the smaller musical ensembles throughout the guesthouses of Matrei, the Pastoral Play is also performed in the courtyard of the Gasthof Lamm. My own personal highlight of the Advent Operettas is, of course, the musical presentation by the state music school in the Pfons community hall. I count myself very lucky to be able to play with them and especially look forward to it every year, because performing music in an orchestra is a very special experience. So secure your tickets without fail!
Christmas joy is everywhere
On the 15th December, it will be very festive in Mühlendorf in Gschnitz with local customs, authentic Christmas sounds and the best Advent atmosphere. There are a lot of other events in the advent, have a look at our event calender. I believe there is something to suit every taste.
