Fit for the rock – basecamp climbing centre

“It really is the most wonderful thing in the world when you can make your hobby your profession,” says Wolfi Peer, mountain guide, manager of the Bergsportzentrum Wipptal Alpin and, since 2018, tenant at the Matrei Basecamp.

The passion of mountaineering
In summer, his outdoor offer range encompasses guided mountain tours, via ferrata courses and Alpine climbing on the rocks. Climbing, especially, always enjoys enormous popularity and there are countless opportunities for it in the Wipptal region.

Basecamp Climbing Centre
With the newly established climbing and training centre “Basecamp” in Matrei am Brenner that Wolfi manages, the perfect opportunity for indoor activity is now also available. “This means that the Alpine guest now has everything under one roof”, enthuses Wolfi Peer, “and the range on offer at our Basecamp includes information about tour conditions, equipment rental and specialised courses. In addition, the spacious fitness centre with sauna and bistro pleases the visitor”.

Climbing is “child’s play”
Wolfi especially likes to offer climbing courses for children. Children have fun in the movement involved and playfully learn together. The little ones are usually very skilful and become true professionals in no time. Whether in the hall, on the rocks or during a via ferrata tour – climbing is an exciting way for children to practice coordination.

Mountain safety
Safety in mountaineering is an important factor for Wolfi Peer, which is why he offers ongoing courses and training. Safety in Alpine mountaineering has always been an issue, as the avalanche situation has to be considered. However, according to Wolfi, it is important that mountain hikers and, especially, climbers are also up to date on Alpine hazards in the summer.
